Hey All. Wondering if anyone could help get me started on macros. I'm trying to come up to speed on all the tools that would help me become an effective raid healer and I have found some examples like:
/cast [@mouseover] Healing Wave

I'm not sure how to effectively use things like this in a 10+ though. Can others, especially healers, share some experiences with Macros or other Addons/Tools for healing?
Thanks!

I've used healbot from burning crusade through now as a healer. It is a basic grid that you can map mouse over healing stuff.

#showtooltip "spell name without quotes"
/cast [target=mouseover, help, nodead][] "spell name without quotes"

so here's the template for a mouseover macro you can use this with just about anything to make healing a little bit quicker.

here's another template to. this one will allow you to cast offensive spells on the target of your target without changing targets. in other words you can spam lighting bolt or lava burst on the enemy without losing the tank as a target.

#showtooltip "spell name without quotes"
/cast [harm][target=targettarget] "spell name without quotes"

for things like weakauras i know there's a way to give someone your weakauras profile but i'm not sure how to do it.

CLIQUE
Save yourself the trouble of creating hover-over macros for every single ability and just download Clique.
There's minimal setup required after you download it, you just need to tell it what keys your spells are bound to.
The only downside to Clique is it doesn't know what to do with self-cast buffs while you're hovering over someone else. ie: if I hover my mouse over you but I'm trying to cast apotheosis which is a self buff, I just sit there looking stupid. Resto shamans might not have that issue, could just be a priest thing.

WEAKAURAS 2 as Marcus mentioned.
If you have a buff that increases your next heal or if you need to know when your oh shit cooldowns are available you can make a giant icon that flashes and annoys the hell out of you until you use them.

ELVUI
In my opinion the most important and indispensable healing addon is ELVUI because it shows healing predictions. While you're casting your heal you can see how much that heal will do once it's finished casting. Very helpful for resto shamans especially since you have the longest cast times of all the healers. Not to mention we have a resto druid and they heal almost entirely through HoTs. You'll know right away if you need to cancel your current cast to avoid overhealing.
If you don't like Elvui, try Healbot as Paul suggested or VuhDo since they also have this feature.
