Hello all,

I was hoping I could get a little help from the collective here. As you guys know I don't have tones of time to play right now so I have been trying to stay focused on one class. Got him to 30, the only problem is I am kind of getting a little tired of the class. I am currently playing an Engineer and I am not sure if it is me and it may be but I am finding him to be a little one dimensional and not all that fun to play in WvWvW.

In PVE I feel that all I do is drop turrets and then run around with my guys. I know grenades are good but I am just not good with them. What I was looking for was for some help with what I could do differently or what not. I have tried both the flame thrower and the elixir gun, nether of which I have liked much.

I have not played in WvWvW much but I have found that I have just not had that much to do. Pistils are short/mid range. Rifle to me sucks but is long single target. Grenades are great if you can hit ppl, I am notoriously bad at predicting where ppl will be in two seconds. Nothing else until you get the supposedly OMG mortar at 80 ish is any good that I can see in a keep siege or defense.

I have always played tanks but with the way this game works there really are no tanks so I thought I might spice it up a bit. Now I am wondering if maybe that was a bad idea. The one thing that always frustrated me about tanks was the lack of range, I know that has been remedied in this game to an extent.

What I like is the Eng's survivability and what I thought to be versatility. I need survivability because I just don't have the time to get great at playing and I would really love to that I could be useful all or most all of the time. I hate just sitting around watching other ppl do cool stuff.

Any help from those who have played more would be great.

Ranged burst damage works out to be half that of melee on any class. It's just how they balance risk/reward. Try warrior or guardian for a few levels and see how you like it. Go through all their weapons because their ranged weapons are pretty sexy too. Tanks definitely exist in pvp. It's a bit like WAR where they run tons of CC and knockbacks but without taunts. I think you'll find warriors can be built very similar to your slayer.

All the ranged AoE in this game has a delay with a graphic effect as a warning. They do it this way because everything in the game has a counter. The counter to ranged AoE is dodging out of it.

The midranged AoE, like flamethrower, generally requires positioning to hit. It is generally channeled, ground effect, or instant but requires a prereq.

I encourage people to play several classes before picking a fave, but I also encourage you to try out a wider range of specs. I've found my playstyle varies wildly depending on my spec and weapon choice.

I'm having a bit of a hard time figuring out exactly what you're asking though. Seems you're asking for playstyle, spec, and class choice advice all in one question.

Nate, I would say my warrior is fun but not our slayer by a long shot.

Warriors are tanky, like a guardian, but I think with enough defensive/durability spec any class can last a we bit of time. Personally I feel I can spec for WvW pretty well. My Warrior w/ 22k hp and like 1500 toughness in WvW @ lvl 58 is plenty squishy. I rely as much on my "active skills" to keep me alive as the hp or stats. I run a rifle in WvW because even as a warrior with a shield/mace + hammer (the best tanky CC spec) I don't last with small amount of focus + siege weapons raining on me.

Not sure if that's any bit helpful either. I don't have enough Engi experience, but I've certainly not seen any one class rise to the top.
